Chapter One

Early Life and Education

Apostle Prosper with microphone

Apostle Prosper Sunday was born on 17th August 1961 in Ekakpamre township, the second son in the household of his father, Peter Okujere, who was a respected Lay Reader of the African Church and a humble bicycle repairer in that township. He was the first son of his mother, Tejiri Okujere (nΓ©e Okotete), a trader and daughter of the Late Pa Rherha Okotete from Ovworhokpokpo community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Though he grew up with little, he persevered even after the early death of his mother following a trade trip to the north when he was young. Those early years of suffering and hardship helped forge in him a strong will to survive and thrive in this life by noble means only.

He did his primary school education at Ekakpamre Primary School and his secondary education at Ekakpamre Grammar School. He taught briefly at the primary school in Okwagbe and also at Egbo Uhurie Grammar School.

Through sheer determination and grit, he gained admission into the prestigious University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, where he studied Political Science. This was by the help of God and the support of his maternal uncles, the Late Mr. Abraham Potokri Shamedje and the Late Uncle Matthew Osiki of blessed memory, who was himself an educationist. Uncle Matthew played a very crucial role in his life. The help he gave left an indelible impression on him and formed the fulcrum of his early resolve to better not just his own lot but that of his immediate family and friends.

Chapter Two

Professional Life & Public Service

Apostle Prosper in black suit and bowtie

His professional life as a civil servant of the Delta State government began in 1990, in old Bendel State, before the creation of Delta State in 1991. He officially resumed work on Monday, 23rd April 1990, in Benin City, Nigeria.

With the creation of Delta State, he was posted to the new state capital, Asaba, where he resumed at the Ministry of Finance. As a junior government staff, he could not afford the rent in the new capital, so he chose to live in the nearby town of Ibusa. While there, he made it a point of duty to stay faithful to his creed to help as many people as he could, placing many of his siblings, friends and well-wishers in available jobs. Many who were not related to him by blood became his friends closer than a brother.

He went on to serve in many crucial government positions during his service which spanned from 1990-2021. He rose through the ranks there. He served as Director Personnel Management for the Ministry of Finance from 1995-1998. Director Finance and Supplies Ministry of Finance 1998-1999. Then was posted to be Director of Administration Ministry of Agriculture 1999-2000. He served as Secretary of the Board of Internal Revenue of Delta State from 2000 -2009 and Director of Administration till 2012. Before he was posted to Community Development Department Governor's Office Warri, where he went on to serve as Acting Director General of the department till 2015. He resumed duties as Director Governor's Office Annex Warri in 2015 till his retirement in 2021.

He was highly regarded by his professional colleagues as a godly, kind and serious professional throughout his years of service. This established reputation led to his being nominated many times to serve on behalf of government on several special committees and boards.

Chapter Three

Marriage and Family Man

Towards the end of 1993, while on a visit to the house of his friend, Sir Isaac Taghwo β€” who was married to his immediate younger sister, Lady Mrs. Patience Taghwo β€” in Otu Jeremi, capital of Ughelli South Local Government Area, he caught a glimpse of the damsel he would later spend his whole life with. Her name was Rita Komoni, daughter of the Late Principal Francis Komoni.

He refused to eat any meal until he was introduced to her. That introduction was the beginning of their beautiful and blissful love story. They solemnized their union on 14th and 15th April 1995, in the presence of God, family, friends and well wishers.

❝
He never believed in being the only shining star in the sky of his world. He wanted more shining stars alongside him in the firmament.
β€” The Creed of Apostle Prosper Okujere

Daddy was big on family all his life. After the death of his father in 1998, he took up the leadership of his father's household, having lost his elder brother Godwin to pneumonia in 1986. He united the large household and fought to maintain unity and peace up till his sudden glorious exit.

He worked all his life to build his family up and better their lot β€” sponsoring some to school as he was himself once sponsored, giving many siblings and friends job opportunities. He was a father to all, a giver, a daddy with a heart that loved God and humanity. His help and kindness were not restricted to his father's household but reached outsiders and friends.

Chapter Four

Ministerial Life: From Salvation to Service

Apostle Prosper during ministerial service

Though he was born to a Lay Reader of the African Church, Sunday OgheneChovwen, as he was fondly called, did not take to God quickly. He lived a life without the devotion to God prescribed in the Bible. To his credit, he admitted he could not bring himself to practise fake devotion to God.

He became born again in Ibusa after his marriage. His wife and Apostle Joel Joseph were instrumental to his conversion, after numerous prayers and fasting from them for God to touch his heart, which God eventually did. His conversion was so complete that from then on he was on fire for the Lord.

He started attending House of Freedom (Faith Liberation Church) in Asaba β€” a Word-based teaching ministry under the dynamic leadership of Papa Nuel Ikeakanam. He grew in love with the Word of God and began to chase after God passionately. He joined the evangelism group, and his lifestyle brought others to Christ. Before long, he became an usher, then head usher, then was ordained a pastor and rose to become the national pastor. When he was transferred to Warri, he pastored the Warri and Otokutu branches until 2015, before heralding his own work.

The Divine Purpose Fasting and Prayer Camp

In 2007, after a trip to Jos for a seven-day foodless fasting and prayer conference organised by the Late Professor Idama β€” in the company of his dear wife and Apostle Joel Joseph β€” he received a conviction from God to replicate the same in Delta State.

He started the fasting in his own house in 2008 at Bendel Estate, Effurun, with his wife, his first son Precious, and some other youths. This powerful programme was coined the Divine Purpose Fasting and Prayer Camp. It now holds every December 20th–26th at Eagles Mount Camp, Egbo Uhurie, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

Sound of Abundance Ministry

In 2015, by the prompting of God, he founded Sound of Abundance Ministry in Osubi town, near Warri Airport, where he served as Lead Shepherd until his passing. The ministry is located at 5 Hon. Steve Eruotor Street, Osubi, Warri, Delta State.

In 2023, by the leading of God, he was ordained an Apostle by the highly esteemed servant of God, Bishop Abos Willie β€” the current President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Delta State.

Until resurrection day, rest on, great eagle. Apostle Prosper OgheneChovwen Sunday Okujere β€” the Fasting Apostle.
